The Raiders signed Bill Romanowski, but that doesn't mean that they don't want to improve their stock. This may have been a moot point if the Raiders, as many seem to believe, trade this and the No. 23 pick to Dallas, Minnesota or Kansas City to jump up in the first round and grab a DT like John Henderson. If the Raiders stay here, they want to cure some ills and Romo is a short-term answer. As a tutor for Harris, he can become a long-term solution.

How do you try to keep a player from a school known for first-round WR busts avoid that vicious cycle from repeating itself? Let him spend his first season learning from Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Tim Brown, two players with the best work ethic in the league. Gafney will be nurtured along in his first season and, as the Raiders come face to face with huge cap problems, be asked to take over in 2003.

The Raiders really need a defensive tackle and there is a lot of talk of them dealing their two first rounders to move up, which probably wouldn't be a bad idea. If they stay here I look for them to try and take the best players on the board and add some youth for their rebuilding project, which may be only a year away. Harris is far and away the top linebacker in a weak draft for the position and would be a nice fit for the Silver and Black.Harris could even see some action as a down end on passing downs.

This pick is partly for the present and partly for the future. Eric Allen's career is winding down so they need to groom a replacement for him. Sheppard is also a good choice because he fits the Raider profile as an exciting cover man who can turn a quarterbacks mistake into points for his team. Like I said earlier,the Raiders will likely be looking for the best player available with an eye towards the future.

After signing veterans Bill Romanowski and Roman Phifer at LB, Oakland will look to address other positions in the first round. With four picks in the first two rounds, they have the liberty of being able to take the best available guy at 21 .. who in this mock is Ed Reed.

With Darrell Russell facing serious court charges, and the Raiders facing a weak interior defensive line, Eddie Freeman is their man at 23rd overall. Freeman is an intriguing prospect, who has clawed his way into the first round.

Oakland has a lot of options and is strongly considering moving either up or down from this spot. Oakland's biggest need is on the defensive line, even with the addition of Parrella. Weaver has the size, athletic ability, and work ethic Oakland is looking for inside and could easily be the pick if the Raiders choose to stay here.�

Again, the Raiders have a lot of options here, and are strongly considering moving this pick. That said, while receiver isn't a huge need in their minds, many feel that the veteran influence of Rice and Brown could make Bryant realize his ability and turn out to be one of the real steals of the draft.

Fills a huge need immediately, also could be looking for a WR to replace Brown/Rice down the road, a corner (Eric Allen retiring?) or defensive lineman as insurance for Trace Armstrong's return from injury and age

Gut pick, never know what Al Davis might do, other players to watch here include Antonio Bryant or Andre Davis, possibly even a corner like Mike Rumph or big DT Eddie Freeman or DT Anthony Weaver would make sense

raidernews.comのAlan Seals氏のアンケートによりますと(Alan,thanks!)2／１２時点で、2002年ドラフトでRaidersは1巡指名について現地のファンは約半数がLB(48%)を指名すべきとしています（私もこのときはLBに1票を投じました）。ついでDL(20%)、CB(13%)S(12%)で合計してDBとすると25%に、以下WR(2%)、RB(2%)、QB(1%)、OL(1%)、TE(1%)でした。

毎年この時期にはあちこちのMock Draftを載せてますが、今年はうちわの意見もとりあげさせていただきたいと思います。みなさまの御希望をお寄せいただけると光栄です。とりあえず私の希望は以下のとおりです。カレッジには詳しくないので、どなたかRaidersにお勧めの選手がいましたらあわせて紹介してください。

トーマスが期待以上の選手だっただけに引退が残念です。ウィズニュースキーは今までよくやってくれました。今年はDが弱かった上、離脱も多いDからの補強です。Gの穴はスタンチコムでなんとかなってくれたらいいですね。

まず、Tampaに１stドラフトあげて、Grudenを押さえる(?)。RBでWhiatleyの代わりが喉から手が出るほど欲しいですが、ここはＯを我慢して、RBはGarner一本でいくとして内回りからシュアなＤ軍団形成を目指す。全員がタックル上手を目指します。（笑）OはQBが急務です。Gannonはもうだめでしょう。下のほうとドラフトで2、3人取って、Tuiと競わす。次世代QBに若いのを固定しないとだめです。Porterに他のポジション、例えば、Sとかをやらせるのは？

今シーズン終わって思ったのは、実はＱＢが大丈夫かと言うことです。ギャノンは良いのですが、ここ一番の爆発力が無いように感じました。彼で本当にスーパーを狙えるのか、ちょっと不安です。昨年、トゥイアソソポというＱＢを獲りましたが、まだまだ、未知数です。2002シーズン、ギャノンに代わるＱＢを育てあげる事が急務では無いかと感じました。ギャノンはあと何年プレイできるんでしょうか。もう一点はＳＳです。ポープとドーセットはどう考えてもダメです。ギブソンは使えそうですが、もう一枚はハリスで大丈夫でしょうか。ＳＳに強烈なヤツが一枚欲しいですね。それから、ＬＢも不安です。トーマス引退という記事を読みましたが、彼の穴を誰が埋めるんでしょうか。アレクサンダーまで抜けたらＬＢが心配ですね。心配したら限が無いんですが、ＷＲもポーターの他にもう一枚若手を育てないと、という不安はあります。ＦＡで良いのがいたら獲りたいですね。そして最後はやはりＲＢです。重くてドーンと走れるリッキー・ウィリアムスのようなＲＢが欲しい。バンイーガンやボーのように、パワフルで速いランナーを獲れませんかね。ガーナーはレシービング・バックという使い方になりそうな気がします。

TE,DE,CB 先ずは弱いラン・オフェンスの強化。BO JACKSONとは言わないまでも一人のスーパーランナーはチームを一変させますから。ラインメンは通常上位指名はありませんから後回し。BIEKERTも頼りないしLBはいいのが欲しい。ウイズニュースキーの穴も大きいのでGも指名したい。FAでは優秀なTE、DEが是非欲しいですね。欲を言えばCBもFAで探したいですね。経験が大事なポジションなだけに新人には任せ難いしね。

今シーズンの強化ポイントは、やはりディフェンスでしょ。速くて強いＤＥを、まず確保したいですね。リードして逃げ切る場面で、相手ＱＢを慌てさせるシーンが、少なかったような印象と、アウトサイドのランで、ＤＥがルートを押し込んで、ＬＢが仕留めるようなシーンが、少なかったような印象ですので。ここを強化したいですね。それと、ＤＢですね。ＣＢとのコンビネーションを考えると、ＦＳを何とかしたいのと。ＳＳが、もっと強烈なタックルをレシーバーに食らわせないと。これ読みの問題ですかねえ？Ｅ・アレンの後も考えないと・・。と考えているのですが。オーナーの趣味を考えると、トンでもない方向へ走りそうな気が・・・。
